How many boxes of flooring do I need?
Measure every room you're covering, add the areas together, then add 8% for end-of-row cuts, plank staggering, and the occasional damaged board. Divide by the coverage printed on your product's box — laminate and vinyl plank boxes typically cover about 20 ft², but it varies from 14 to 30. Round up to whole boxes; leftover planks are your repair stash.
Worked example. Two rooms — a 12 × 10 ft bedroom (120 ft²) and a 15 × 12 ft living room (180 ft²) — total 300 ft². Add 8% waste to get 324 ft². If each box covers 20 ft², you need ⌈324 ÷ 20⌉ = 17 boxes. Buy them in one order and keep the spare planks — they're your only exact-match repair stock.
